Q: How long should a Black Fox Metalcraft bespoke weathervane last?
A: ✓ The lifespan of your metalwork will vary depending on whether you site it in a sheltered, inland garden, or an exposed clifftop by the sea, so it is difficult to give a clear answer. ✓ All of Black Fox Metalcraft’s work is zinc electroplated, which can increase its lifespan tenfold in comparison with a non-electroplated version. ✓ Items we created when we set up the business in 2012 still look great.
Q: Does a gilded weathervane need a lacquer over it?
A: It depends what carat gold leaf has been used — Black Fox Metalcraft use 23.5 carat gold leaf, so it will outlast any lacquer currently available. If a lower quality gold leaf had been used, then yes a lacquer could be beneficial.
