Swinging Signs Information

The standard size of our swinging signs is 45 cm x 60 cm. These measurements will vary depending on the design chosen, the text required, and can be portait or landscape. Please contact us for a quote if you would like a different size, smaller or larger. As with our weathervanes, we can produce bespoke designs for a hanging sign based on any theme, generally for no extra charge, for a farm, business or home. A wonderful personalised house warming gift or wedding present for a loved one!

  

Our swinging signs are drawn by a professional designer at Black Fox Metalcraft in our workshop in the Scottish Borders. When we say there is 'no extra charge for bespoke swinging sign designs,' this means we allow for an hour or so of design work within the price. This is usually enough to create a fairly straightforward design with minor alterations. If the design does go back and forth multiple times, especially with significant alterations, an hourly rate will apply. We don't add on anything for an extra few minutes here and there, but if I'm using my skill and 20 years of experience far exceeding this time, we do need to be covered for this at an hourly rate. (There has never as yet been an occasion where we have needed to charge for more than one hour).

In almost every case, where plenty of consideration has been given before commissioning the design and a clear brief given, the design work is done within the hour or so of time allowed. I'll ask enough questions before starting work that I should know exactly what I am doing, therefore keeping the design process as straightforward as possible.For large bespoke design projects, an hourly rate does apply, and these costs would be discussed and agreed prior to starting any work.

Designs are cut from 3 mm thick mild steel using the most up to date laser technology, and electroplated to protect against rust. They are heavy duty and built to last - our large signs weigh around 15 kilos.

A standard bracket with hand forged scroll is included in the price - see examples in photos at the bottom of the page. These are suitable for mounting to a vertical surface such as a wall or post. Each swinging sign is joined to its chosen bracket with heavy duty links, using stainless steel bolts and locking nuts (which we provide).  Signs can be fixed in place with a matching bracket beneath - this is sometimes a preferred option for very windy locations. See pictures under the text. We are happy to produce custom brackets to your specification - please contact us to discuss your requirements. Fixing bolts are not included as requirements will vary depending on application.

 

All of our swinging signs are electroplated to prevent rusting, and finished in a matt black powder coat, baked on at 170 degrees. The text is carefully painted by hand in ivory cream, by a professional artist. Please enter the text required in the comments box at checkout. As standard, a 'Times New Roman' style font is used, but we are happy to use pretty much any other typeface if required, please just let us know. For a more crisp, corporate look, we can also apply text using vinyl lettering - please contact us if this is your preference. Up to two lines of text are included in the price - if your house or farm name requires more space than this contact us for a price.
