The origins of the association between cockerels, or roosters and churches is believed to have begun with a passage in the bible stating that 'St peter would deny Jesus thrice before the rooster crowed'. As such, the Cockerel was adopted as a symbol & placed on church roofs. Over the years the tradition of having a Cockerel weathervane continued, though it's meaning diluted. Our Cockerel weathervane is designed and made in the UK; a great way to top off any building.
The shape of a Cockerel is actually ideal for a weathervane sail - their large tail being perfect for catching the wind, so there may be a practical element to this classic weathervane as well. All of Black Fox Metalcraft's weathervanes are designed carefully so that they function perfectly as a weather reading tool - many weathervanes found online do not. To order, please choose the required size, fixing and arrow, & feel free to ask any questions.
Designed and crafted entirely in the UK, Black Fox Metalcraft's weathervanes are all electroplated as standard, meaning their lifespan will be significantly longer than that of a non electroplated version. The matt black powdercoat gives a traditional aesthetic, which because of the high standard of the finish, will be maintained for many years to come. For advice on choosing the most appropriate size of weathervane for your property and the location, have a look at the weathervanes installation page. For information regarding fixings, please read the fixings information page.
