Metal House Signs & Name Plates

Created to order in Scotland

Black Fox's metal house signs are designed by hand from our home in the Scottish Borders and transferred to a computer guided laser machine for cutting. Each house or farm sign profile is cut from quality 3 mm steel using a nitrogen shrouded laser; this keeps the metal cool, making intricate and beautiful designs possible without warping from heat. Your chosen profile is then Tig welded from behind to a mounting bar and name plaque, meaning welds are not visible from the front of the sign, and are neat and precise on the back.

The required text is painted by hand using red oxide primer and two top coats of extra tough outdoor paint. As standard we use Times new roman for its readability and traditional style, but are happy to paint in any style to suit your taste and requirements. We enjoy the challenge and variety of painting different styles of lettering so if you have a preferred font let us know in the comments box when ordering!

Custom metal house plaques

Our metal house name plates can easily be personalised to showcase your interests and personality. They are all are made to order in the UK so if you have an idea that you don't see here, we're always happy to chat to customers and take on new challenges where possible! Custom business logos can be cut to make your retail premises stand out, and we have produced sets of matching signs for example for groups of holiday cottages. Our metal house plaques are versatile, built to last and can be delivered all over the world.

Black Fox's metal address signs look great on any surface such as wooden gates or brick walls, but stand out particularly well against a whitewash wall. They make an ideal housewarming gift or treat to personalise your own property, and are great for decorating sheds & workshops too.

If you are looking for a double sided sign, browse our hanging signs and double sided signs sections.

Why is wrought iron not used to create house name plates?

Our laser cut metal signs are designed in the traditional style of wrought iron, but are made from steel today. The properties of wrought iron and mild steel are very similar (for more details, check out our blog post here). While you can feel the difference when working with the materials, aesthetically, the finished coat hooks are indistinguishable. Steel is stronger and more cost-effective than wrought iron, but it is more prone to corrosion. To combat this, every one of our steel house name plates is electroplated with zinc as a standard protective layer to prevent rust.

So, while it’s not technically accurate to call these items wrought iron house signs, the term "wrought iron" can also refer to the traditional style rather than the specific material used.
