Land Rover Series 1 Weathervane

Produced in the midlands from 1948, the Land Rover Series 1 was the first mass produced 4 wheel drive car available to the public. Inspired in part by World War 2 military jeeps, the Land Rover was designed in response to the lack of demand for Rover’s luxury cars that had been popular in the pre war years. Due to steel shortages and subsequent rationing immediately post war, the Land Rover Series 1 bodies were made from aluminium, which explains their longevity.
